Japanese Companies Participation in Development Projects

Development projects of Africa are usually financed by Official Development Assistance (ODA) including grant aids, technical aids, soft loans and other public funds from various organizations including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, JICA, JBIC and other international development organizations. The Japanese government has been encouraging companies to actively participate in these development projects. Many Japanese people and companies have accumulated experiences mainly in projects backed by JICA and by JBIC. There is an increasing number of cases where Japanese companies participate in development projects in Asia through international competitions. However, such cases are still few in Africa. Thus, increase in the participation in development project in Africa is expected.

In this section, we will introduce experiences of Japanese companies and consultants participating in African development projects, JICA and JBIC. The AfDB will also submit cases of the participation of Japanese firms in development projects. We hope this section will be useful for those who are considering the participation.
